A Brief History

This is me around the age of 10. Notice the hair....

I was born in Chicopee Falls, Mass. I don’t remember that. My dad was in the air force and Mum was from England. We lived in Massachusetts and California in the early years and then moved to England. We moved there because my Nana was dying from cancer and Mum wanted to be near her, but we kids didn’t know or understand that at the time. I have great memories of growing up, running wild in the country and lots of trips to London to do sightseeing and spend time with cousins.

We came back to the US in 1970, I think. We moved from England to Wichita, Kansas. Talk about culture shock! Mum and Dad split and life changed tremendously.

Fast forward about 3 years when we migrated to California. We ended up in the San Fernando Valley, before it was chic to be a valley girl. Fast forward another 3 years and there was a move up to the Central Valley. Another big culture shock! High school was a blur, but I met my future husband there and started a new life as a young (19) married couple. Popped out three kids from the ages of 21 through 24. The 80’s were a blur of raising three young kids…. I don’t really remember the first year of my third child’s life :-) and I was a stay-at-home mom!

I got a job as a dental assistant and worked for about five years in the dental field. Got tired of that and didn’t relish the thought of a career for the rest of my life, so switched gears. Got a job at a school, intending to go back to college and become a teacher. Then I got a job as a computer tech at the school! Loved it! I found the whole educational technology movement to be just my cup of tea and I was good at it. I eventually ended up in IT support in education and also got a teaching credential in the vocational arena and taught adult ed computer classes.

I currently work as the Director of Technology at a small school distict in the valley. It’s fun, stressful, exhausting and challenging. You never know what’s going to be happening every day. I’m always learning something new.

This is me now
